How Power King works

Power King reads compatible power stations, batteries, inverters and solar chargers over Bluetooth and shows what they are doing: charge, power in and out, solar, every cell, history and health. It only reads: it never changes a setting.

Getting started

  1. Turn your power station or battery on and keep your phone within a few metres of it.
  2. Make sure nothing else is connected to your unit: most units allow one Bluetooth connection at a time.
  3. Open Power King. Units it can read appear under “Nearby”: tap yours.
  4. Some units need a one-time Bluetooth handshake using your existing main provider login. Power King never keeps your password.

If Power King recognises your unit, it appears under “Nearby”. No unit yet? Open the app and tap “Try the demo”.

Victron devices

Power King reads Victron inverters, solar chargers and battery monitors, with Bluetooth built in or a VE.Direct Bluetooth dongle. It never connects to them, so VictronConnect works as before. Each device needs its own key, once:

  1. In VictronConnect, open the device. If it asks for a PIN, that's VictronConnect's own Bluetooth PIN: Power King doesn't use it.
  2. Tap the gear icon, then ⋮ at the top right, and choose Product info. Don't tap Reset to defaults.
  3. Next to Instant readout details, tap Show, and copy the encryption key: 32 characters.
  4. Close VictronConnect completely: while it is connected, the device stops sending its readings.
  5. In Power King, tap the device under “Nearby”, paste the key and tap Save.

A new Bluetooth PIN gives the device a new key: Power King then asks for it again. Not under “Nearby”? On the device's Product info page, Instant readout via Bluetooth must be enabled.

What you see

  • Overview
Charge, power in and out, time left, temperatures, and a health check in plain words.
  • CellsPro
Every cell's voltage side by side, a warning when one is far from the others, and a check that finds a weak cell by how it behaves under load.
  • TestsPro
A guided load test and a full capacity test.
  • HistoryPro
Energy in and out by day, your solar panels against their rating, and battery health over the months.
  • All dataPro
Every value the unit reports, to copy and share.

While you do other things

With Pro, units you open stay connected with the screen off or the app closed; a notification shows it, with a Stop button. Alerts tell you about low or full charge, power cuts, and hot or weak cells, and a home-screen widget shows each unit's charge. The free version reads units while Power King is open.

Reports and your data

With Pro, a health report for each unit, in your phone's language, to share or save as a PDF; and your readings, daily energy, battery health and tests as spreadsheet files.

Questions

Can Power King change my unit's settings?
No. Power King only reads. It doesn't change or alter any battery's or power station's factory-set parameters, apps or software.
Does it need the internet?
Not to read your units. Setting up some units needs the internet once, Pro checks in now and then, and the app looks for updates once a day.
What's free, and what does Pro add?
The free version shows each unit's overview while Power King is open. Pro, US$10 a year with tax included and the first 7 days free, adds alerts, watching in the background, every cell, the tests, history and solar, all data, export, health reports, the widget and totals. The demo shows all of it.
Is my data uploaded?
No. Readings, history and reports stay on your phone.
How do I update?
The app tells you when a new version is out. Download it from this website and install it over the old one: your units, history and Pro stay.
